The nerdy technician prevails?

Mission Impossible: IV may have a decisively mysterious plot thus far, but as director Brad Bird has actors lining up to read for roles, the cast is taking form.

Joining Tom Cruise and small group of rumored cast members (such as Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is Simon Pegg, the previous M.I. film’s tech nerd (and Star Trek’s Scotty).

Pegg, also known for Shaun of the Dead, is in talks to reprise his role as Benji Dunn in the fourth M.I. flick. This announcement is likely just one of many, as Bird is spending this week casting, with the film set to start production in September.

Produced by Cruise, J.J. Abrams and Paula Wagner, the fourth and potentially final film is projected for a late 2011 release.

New Project Announced!

According to Variety, Jonathan has joined the cast of “Albert Nobbs”:

‘Albert Nobbs’ rounds out cast
Seyfried, Rhys Meyers, Bloom board Glenn Close project

By Pamela McClintock

Amanda Seyfried, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Orlando Bloom have joined the cast of Rodrigo Garcia’s “Albert Nobbs,” which sees Glenn Close reprise her award-winning stage role as a woman who must pass as a man to survive life in 19th century Ireland.

Project is dear to Close and marks her feature producing debut. She also adapted the script from the short story by Irish author George Moore with author John Banville.

Garcia begins shooting in June in Dublin. Also joining the cast are Michael Gambon and Janet McTeer.

In the story, the heroine finds herself trapped in a prison of her own making after spending 20 years dressing and working as a man.

Close won an Obie Award in 1983 playing the same character in Simone Benmussa’s Off Broadway interpretation of “The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs.” Producing the feature film with Close are Bonnie Curtis, Julie Lynn and Alan Moloney. The Irish Film Board is providing some development support, while WestEnd Films is handling international sales.

Film marks Close’s third collaboration with Garcia after “Nine Lives” and “Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her.”

Seyfried is repped by Innovative Artists; Rhy Meyers and Bloom, CAA.

Love & Virtue still on track

From Screen Daily comes news from the American Film Market* that a long simmering project that Jonathan has been attached to is back on track. *AFM is an annual event in Santa Monica, CA where countless production and distribution deals are closed:

Veteran auteur Raul Ruiz’s long-gestating big budget medieval epic Love and Virtue, which chronicles the battles waged within King Charlemagne’s empire, has been given a new lease of life.

New Australian outfit Galloping Films, headed by Carlos Alperin, has now come on board as sales agent and closed a handful of pre-sales here to the CIS (Lizard Cinema), Bulgaria (Tandem Video), and the Middle East (Falcon.)

Meanwhile, the big name cast announced in 2007 is still in place. Jonathan Rhys Meyers, John Malkovich, Daryl Hannah and Damien Lewis remain committed to the film.

The aim is to shoot the film in early summer next year on location in Belgium and Luxembourg before moving to London.

New Project announced!

Exciting new project has just been announced for Jonathan!

From ET:

Kevin Bacon and Jonathan Rhys Meyers to Star in Fishy New Comedy

Kevin Bacon and Jonathan Rhys Meyers are teaming up for a new comedy, ‘Whole Lotta Sole,’ which is set to film in Belfast, Ireland in 2010.

‘Sole’ finds Rhys Meyers playing a thief whose attempt to plunder a fish market leads him to take Bacon’s character hostage. Rhys Meyers has to stay one step ahead of both the police and a local gangster.

Jay Russell (‘My Dog Skip’) has signed on to direct a script written by Terry George (‘Hotel Rwanda’) and Thomas Gallagher. Russell said of the project, in part, “This is a great comedy project, not like Terry’s usual political fare. It’s very exciting to have one of the best young actors today, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, teamed up with one of the greats, Kevin Bacon.”

Sophie Okonedo (‘Dirty Pretty Things’) and James Nesbitt (‘Match Point’) will co-star.

Kevin Bacon joins British ensemble on Essential’s Whole Lotta Sole
6 November, 2009 | By Jeremy Kay

Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Kevin Bacon, Sophie Okonedo and James Nesbitt will star in the comedy Whole LottaSole, which Essential Entertainment is selling here.

Jay Russell will direct on location in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in early 2010 from a screenplay by Terry George (Hotel Rwanda) and Thomas Gallagher, who are both producing.

The story centres on a botched fish market robbery that leads to the involvement of the local police and a gangster out for revenge.

“We’re all very excited to be working with Jay, Terry and the terrific global cast they’ve assembled,” Essential’s president of worldwide distribution John Fremes said.

“Whole Lotta Sole has the traditional beats of a gangster film and the tension of a hostage situation but what sets it apart is the comedy throughout and that it’s ultimately a story full of heart.”
