The Versace ads are starting to turn up in fashion magazines. A close-up ad of Jonny with glasses on appears in the September issues of Esquire (US), Details (US) and GQ (US). Thanks to Shaznic for the information.
Reena Hammer is on the cover of the August 4th issue of the Evening Standard magazine. In the article, she talks about her relationship with Jonathan, her upbringing, and future plans.
Jonathan is featured in the June 2006 issue of UK Glamour. And Production Weekly is reporting a new project for Jonathan that would start production late this year (and presumably after he completes production on 11 episodes of “The Tudors”):
Michelle Williams to Play Bronte
Source: Production Weekly May 11, 2006
Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain) is set to play the title character in Angela Workman’s Bronte, reports Production Weekly. The big screen biopic is based on the life of Charlotte Bronte, author of classic novel “Jane Eyre.” The cast also includes Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Imelda Staunton, Brian Cos and Ben Chaplin. Workman also wrote the script for the film, which starts production later this year.
No other confirmation yet on this but it certainly sounds like an intriguing film. Thanks to Shelia for the news.
Jonathan is featured in the June issues of Instyle (as a Man of Style) and Out (called “Hottest Straight Guy We Wish Was Gay”) magazines. And the Versace and Hugo Boss rumors appear to be true. He has signed deals to appear in ad campaigns for both companies. From the Irish Examiner:
Speaking from a promotional tour in Amsterdam, Rhys-Meyers said: “They felt it was the right time to ask me and, naturally, I jumped at the chance.” And he joked: “It’s certainly handy to earn the extra few bob, although I will get a mocking from my friends back in Cork.”
Jonathan appeared on MTV’s TRL yesterday afternoon with the cast of “Mission Impossible 3″. Jonny also attended the AngloMania Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday night. And Jonathan is currently in the May issue of Jane magazine. Tonight is the premiere of “Mission: Impossible III” in New York City. You can watch live coverage from the premiere on Yahoo! Movies.
Another movie clip from “Mission Impossible 3″ was released today and features Jonathan. View the “Shanghai” clip at Yahoo! Movies. The official website has been updated with all kinds of new goodies. Click on About, then Cast and they’ve got the bio up on Jonny with a new photo. And in the production notes, under About the Team is the following:
Jonathan Rhys Meyers joins the team as Declan, the team’s transportation expert: if you need it flown, driven, sailed, glided, helicoptered, or motored, he’s the man you want - despite his personality quirks. “Declan’s a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pans, mad Irishman,” says Rhys Meyers, who was most recently seen in the lead role of Woody Allen’s “Match Point”, a performance for which he received rave reviews. “He’s part of the next generation of the IMF - Ethan’s grooming him. He’s got that risk element that Ethan likes in his team members.”
Declan is also a chameleon, able to blend into any situation unnoticed. “One minute, he’s an Italian deliveryman; the next, he’s a geeky American tourist; and the next, a Vatican guard,” notes Rhys Meyers. “It’s very easy for him to slip into another character.”
GMTV in the UK has a short interview clip with Jonathan on their website from this morning (thanks Mia!). And lastly, “Match Point” is out today on DVD!
Jonathan is on the cover of another magazine. This time he graces the cover of the May issue of Cargo magazine.
Jonathan is on the cover of the May issue of Blackbook magazine.
Jonathan is on the cover of the February issue of L’Uomo Vogue! There’s a 12 page pictorial on him in this Italian fashion magazine. Jonny is currently being spotted in New York City, getting ready for the filming of “August Rush”.
Exciting news to report about an interesting new project for Jonathan. From Zap2It:
Showtime has snagged “Elvis” and “Match Point” star Jonathan Rhys-Meyers to take the lead role in “The Tudors,” a new series doubling as drama and English history lesson.
Showtime has ordered 10 episodes of “The Tudors,” which will star Rhys-Meyers as Henry VIII, the ruler best remember for his later, more portly years. Instead, “The Tudors” will focus on the early part of his reign, which lasted from 1509 to 1547.
Michael Hirst, who knows a few things about royalty as the screenwriter of “Elizabeth,” wrote the first five hours of “The Tudors” and at least the first two episodes will be directed by Charles McDougall, an Emmy winner for the “Desperate Housewives” pilot.
“Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is one of the hottest young movie stars working today and his incredible range as an actor, playing everything from historical figures to Elvis Presley, makes him an immensely thrilling choice to play this new, younger incarnation of the most infamous King ever to rule Great Britain,” says Showtime Entertainment President Robert Greenblatt. “As a producer of ‘Elvis,’ I had the chance to get to know Jonathan and see him craft a performance of a character that many doubted could be honestly or sensitively portrayed.”
Greenblatt adds, “He is one of the most talented rising film stars working today and his desire to do this series in the midst of his movie career catching fire is indicative of that great U.K. tradition where actors sign on to projects that they fall in love with.”
Showtime is aiming for a 2007 premiere for “The Tudors.”
Filming will begin after the filming of “August Rush” in Dublin, Ireland. Jonathan has signed on for at least 3 seasons of the show, which is a typical television show contract. Showtime is a cable station in the US and has so far ordered 10 episodes of the series for a premiere in 2007. It is not known if Showtime will sell the series overseas. And lastly, the February issue of Spin Magazine has a 2 page feature on Jonathan.
Jonathan is featured in a huge photo spread in the new issue of Esquire magazine (the January 2006 US issue). And he made another appearance with his “Match Point” co-star Scarlett Johansson in an interview on the Today Show’s Saturday edition this past weekend. And lastly, Jonathan has won Best Actor in a Miniseries or a Motion Picture Made for Television at the 10th annual Satellite Awards. His co-star Randy Quaid won Best Supporting Actor and “Elvis” won Best Miniseries. Congratulations Jonathan!
