Vanity Fair now in theatres

“Vanity Fair” is now out in select theatres across the US. It’s been garnering excellent reviews so far.

“I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” will be coming out on DVD in the US on November 16, 2004. You can already pre-order the DVD on Amazon. You can also pre-order “The Tesseract” on DVD through Amazon too.

I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead website up

The official US website for “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” is finally online with some new release date information. The film will be opening in New York City on June 18 of this month. June 25th it will expand to Los Angeles and other select cities.

Jonathan was interviewed on a Japanese cinema program that aired on TV recently. You can read a transcript of the interview on the program’s website.

Lots of Movie News

Lots of movie news to report. First up, you can view a trailer for Vanity Fair on Yahoo! Movies. The film is scheduled for a limited release September 1 in the US. It is not playing at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

“The Lion in Winter” will have it’s premiere screening in Los Angeles on May 11 at the Pacific Design Center. No word on what cast members will be in attendance. It will have it’s premiere airing on May 23 on Showtime. Check local listings for all showtimes.

“I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” is now out in limited release in the UK. The official UK website is up with photos and an excellent trailer. You can view the US trailer on Apple.

“Octane” is finally being released on DVD in the US with a new title, “Pulse”, on July 20. You can preorder a copy through Amazon.

“Perfect Creature” is popping up in news items again. Looks like this vampire project might be again in the works with talk of Jonathan having a role. From Z Review (thanks Daisy):

Arclight Films have picked up the international distribution rights to a project called Perfect Creature that is being Directed by Glenn Standring. The movie is being produced by Tim Sanders. Starring in the movie will be Dougray Scott, with Saffron Burrows and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers in talks. The movie mixes science fiction and horror in a retelling of the original vampire myth, set in an alternate version of the 1960s. Themes include race, serial killings and the capacity of human beings to hope. Exteriors will be shot in Dunedin in New Zealand and Animation Research Limited will handle the effects.

Tidbits on lots of projects

Lots of movie news to report. First up, “Prozac Nation” is now out on DVD in Japan. “The Tesseract” will finally be released in Japanese theatres this spring. There is an official website up with a few new images. According to First Look Home Entertainment, both “The Tesseract” and “Octane” will be out on DVD and video April 2004. No word when exactly or in what formats.

“Alexander” has finished production in Thailand. Jonathan recently attended the 2004 Bangkok International Film Festival in support of “Alexander” with fellow cast members. “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” has been making the rounds of many U.S. film festivals including the Santa Barbara Film Festival and the Portland International Film Festival. It’s set for a limited U.S. release June 11. And lastly, “The Lion in Winter” will air this May on the Showtime cable network in the U.S.

Edinburgh Film Festival

“I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival on August 23. You can read about the premiere screening where Jonathan, co-star Clive Owen, and director Mike Hodges attended at iofilm.

New photo spread in GQ

Jonathan was featured in a fabulous photo spread in the June issue of US GQ magazine. Photos from this spread are now featured in the August issue of UK GQ magazine. Jonathan is rumored to have been cast as Cassander in Oliver Stone’s upcoming project “Alexander”. More details on that soon.

The official website for I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead is now up, though no content yet. It’s scheduled for release in 2004 in the US.

There is still no word on any official release of “Prozac Nation” from Miramax. You can watch a nice high quality version of the trailer over on Apple.com.

Jonathan at premiere party

Jonathan recently attended a premiere party in France for “The Importance of Being Ernest”, a film due for release in the UK on September 6. An article about this party was featured in the September 1 Style issue of the Sunday Times. There is also a photo of Jonathan from this party in the latest Hello Magazine. His next film, “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead”, is due to start production this month. It’s being made in part by Paramount Classics, a US production company.

Details on new projects

Lots of exciting news to report on new Jonathan film projects. First from Variety comes word that Jonathan is set to star in director Mike Hodges new film:

Director Mike Hodges will reteam with his “Croupier” star Clive Owen on the noir thriller “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead,” with Paramount Classics acquiring domestic distribution and certain international territories. Written by Trevor Preston, “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” tells of a former gang boss who is drawn back into the game to avenge his brother’s sordid and tragic death. Charlotte Rampling, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and Malcolm McDowell also star.

The picture begins production in September and is slated for a late 2003 release. In addition to North America, Paramount Classics acquired the picture for Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Latin America and the Middle East.

Hodges also directed the original “Get Carter,” starring Michael Caine. Owen is starring opposite Angelina Jolie in “Beyond Borders” and was most recently seen in Robert Altman’s award-winning ensembler “Gosford Park.”

Thesp Quintet High on ‘Octane’

Madeleine Stowe (”We Were Soldiers”) and Mischa Barton (”Lost and Delirious”) are among the stars to sign on for “Octane,” a low-budget supernatural thriller that begins shooting June 3 on location in Luxembourg.

Stowe plays a woman who suspects that the people who have lured away her teenage daughter (Barton) are not what they seem. Norman Reedus (”Blade II”), Bijou Phillips (”Bully”) and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (”Bend It Like Beckham”) also star in the film, which Marcus Adams (”Long Time Dead”) will direct.

The $11.5 million film marks the debut production of Four Horsemen Films, a youth-oriented genre label of U.K. producer Random Harvest.

Lastly, from the Cannes Film Festival comes word that Jonathan is in talks to star in a long awaited live action movie version of Peter Beagle’s novel The Last Unicorn. “Gormenghast” co-star Christoper Lee and Angela Lansbury are set to star in the Continent Film production, which plans to feature a computer generated unicorn. Mia Farrow (the voice of the Unicorn in the original animated version of the film) and Heath Ledger are also in talks to star in this $45 million production.
