PBS is set to air “Gormenghast” finally in June. It will also be released on DVD here in the US.
“The Magnificent Ambersons” is gearing up for it’s premiere. The novel will be republished with a new cover that shows off the cast of the tv movie.
Christina Ricci has been doing a lot of publicity lately and “Prozac Nation” keeps popping up in many articles. Still no word on when it may finally get released.
Also no word on what Jonny’s next project will be.
Jonathan will be filming a small role in Ioan Gruffudd’s new film “Happy Now” next month in Wales (thanks to Jenny and Rebecca for passing this along). Have any plans for Halloween? “Gormenghast” will be re-airing in it’s entirety beginning with the making of documentary starting at 6:30pm on BBC America October 31 (thanks wolfgoddess).
And lastly, was sent a little tidbit of info about “The Magnificent Ambersons”. The four hour miniseries will air on A&E in the US but is to be packaged as a feature internationally (thanks Sandi). It also appears Thora Birch is no longer attached to the project. Gretchen Mol is instead reported to be playing Jonathan’s character’s girlfriend.
For those in Canada, “Gormenghast” will be re-airing on the Space Network on August 15, 22, 29 and September 5 at 8:30 PM ET. Thanks to Raine for passing this info along.
And coming from Rebecca, there is some corrected information about the “Titus” premiere. It will be premiering at the Edinburgh Film Festival August 26. The August 30 showing is a preview only. Jonathan will most likey not be attending either showing.
Check out the June issue of Vogue (w/ George Clooney on the cover). There’s an article/interview on Jonathan with a picture from “Gormenghast”. It mentions the June 10 broadcast on BBC America (check out their expanded section on “Gormenghast” at their official website) and that PBS will be broadcasting it early next year. (Thanks to Bridge on sending me this info).
More news coming now on “Conspiracy of Weeds”. According to one of its production companies, Myriad Pictures, the project is now titled “Tangled” and principal photography starts on May 22. Jonathan will be playing the part of Alan, in a love triangle story with Shawn Hatosy and Rachael Leigh Cook. The summary from their page goes like this:
When David is found bruised, beaten and stumbling down a secluded road, the Police try to piece together the puzzle of what happened. We learn of the relationship between Jenny, the love of David’s life, and Alan, David’s best friend, and the love triangle that instigated the confrontation. Was it love, jealousy or the pre-meditated scheme of a deranged psychotic?
And you can currently check out a short review of “Gormenghast” in the May issue of Vanity Fair. Thanks to the lovely Heatherjune you can read it in the Press section.
There is a small feature on “Gormenghast” in the new May 2000 Vanity Fair (thanks Taarna). No new images but the first major mention of “Gormenghast” in a US publication. Here’s a particularly nice quote:
“As for Steerpike, the lithe Lucifer who escapes from the kitchen, he’s played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers in a protean performance. Don’t let the Burne-Jones mouth fool you–he’s Irish, with quicksilver instincts at his service. His energy, his beauty, his punk abandon–Meyers makes Steerpike a Mozartean antihero, the wrong kind of sublime. He gets you every time.”
Finally found out some word of a possible “Titus” UK release in May. Ooh! Go vote for Jonny at this completely unscientific Sexiest Man Alive poll. You can vote as many times as possible (note: it’s very easy to vote MANY times if you use your space bar creatively). Jonny is currently in 3rd place. Woohoo!
And here’s some very cool news. You can pre-order a copy of Titus: The Illustrated Screenplay over at Amazon.com. They say it’s due this month to come out. Let’s hold our breath because it says it’s going to feature over 80 photos!!! Aaahhh!!!
The BBC documentary on the making of “Gormenghast” that was to air April 1, was postponed and will air closer to when “Gormenghast” is premiering on BBC America. You can check out BBC America’s new page on “Gormenghast” that lists all the scheduled air dates so far (thanks Charmaine).
Check out this cool site on beautiful boys in eyeliner. Jonathan is the May 2000 beautiful boy.

In other news (thanks to the report at the All that glitters website), for those in Europe who have the cable channel BBC Prime, “The Tribe” is going to be aired this Sunday, March 12. Check out their website to see if they will be showing it in your country. This is the rarest and most sought after Jonny film. If you get a copy of this, you will be many people’s new best friend.
And lastly, if you missed getting Shivers magazine with Jonny on the cover, you can order a copy online, for US or UK customers at their online website. You can also order a copy of Cult Times #53, February 2000 that featured an interview with Jonathan and TV Zone #123, February 2000 that has a feature on “Gormenghast”.
More details on the modeling show where Jonny introduced the Versace collection. It was a modeling charity benefit show called the Brown Thomas International Fashion Show at the Pointe Depot. All proceeds went to the Chernobyl Childrens Project headed by Bono’s wife, Ali Hewson. (Thanks Rebecca…)
