Jonathan… as Elvis!

Jonathan has been cast to play Elvis Presley in a CBS 4 hour mini-series on the rock and roll legend. Filming starts in January in New Orleans with an expected airdate during May sweeps. This is the first biopic that has the approval of the Presley estate. Which means it can use original recordings of his music. Robert Greenblatt and David Janollari from HBO’s Six Feet Under are producing. From IGN: “He was the first person I’d ever thought of for the role,” said exec producer Howard Braunstein. “I...

Sunday Times

Man in the mirror By Shane Watson Sunday Times, Style section, December 19, 2004 Dark, dazzling, vain and insecure, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is grooming himself for stardom. For this actor, says Shane Watson, image is everything Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the flesh delivers much the same impression as he does on screen. On the one hand, he is fragile and pretty, with a walk straight out of Zoolander, pointy cowboy boots scissoring one in front of the other, shoulders shimmying in his white vest and khaki jacket....

Blackbook

David Bailey vs Jonathan Rhys-Meyers Blackbook, October/November 2004 In which a legendary photographer swaps wit and wisdom with Woody Allen’s latest leading man on the absurdity of celebrity, the irrelevance of education, and Michelangelo’s jewelry line. David Bailey is one of the world’s most famous photographers, almost as well known for his sexual conquests (among them ‘60s model Jean Shrimpton and actress Catherine Deneuve) as for his timeless portraits. The inspiration for Antonioni’s cult movie, Blow Up, Bailey epitomizes a certain kind of brash, working-class Englishman who...

Magazines

Jonathan has been popping up in magazines left and right. There’s a great interview between Jonathan and photographer David Bailey (responsible for so many amazing photos of Jonny) in the October issue of Blackbook magazine. And in the October issue of L’Optimum magazine, there is a stunning 8 page photo spread on Jonathan. This is a French magazine so it may be more difficult to find. Lastly, it appears the Woody Allen Summer Project may now have a title: Match Point. It has not been officially confirmed yet though.

New project?

Just got some news. First, the Good Morning America interview has been postponed indefinitely. Jonathan is not going to be doing “Vinyl”. Instead he has been offered and accepted a lead role in a new film by Bille August. “Explosion”, based on the novel Burden of Desire by Robert MacNeil, concerns the real life incident when a munitions ship blew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1917. At the heart of the story is a love triangle between an unhappily married young man, a psychiatrist, and a remarkable unconvential...

Despite all the newspaper and tv guide listings, Jonathan did not appear on Good Morning America this morning. Trying to find out if the interview has been rescheduled or is no longer going to happen. Sorry for the false alarm!
