Protesters play same sad tune

Perhaps there should be a prize for Protest of the Year. If it did exist, the front-runners would surely be the people who mounted the demonstration on the Hill of Tara yesterday.

More than 3,000 protesters against the construction of the M3 motorway close to the ancient site formed themselves into the shape of a harp for an aerial photograph. The Irish harp has been called a symbol of peace and culture. Yesterday it symbolised peaceful protest and recalled cultures stretching back to the beginning of history and beyond.

But it had its modern side as well. The organisers brought in the famous actors Stuart Townsend and Jonathan Rhys Meyers to support their case. Evidently they understood the value of publicity and celebrity. And Mr Rhys Meyers, in a speech to the crowd, showed that he had been well briefed. He made an important point when he said that not only was the motorway project “horrible”, so was the development it would bring.

Motorways are not horrible in themselves, but as the Tara protesters claim they may be built in the wrong place. Objectors to the present project have proposed an alternative route and/or the rebuilding of the Navan railway line. Their pleas have gone unheard, and in all probability the M3 will run as planned through the Tara-Skryne Valley.

That, however, does not have to mean permission for ugly and harmful associated development. Along with the archaeological finds, we must preserve the beauty of the landscape.

Hugo has launched a new website for fragrances XX and XY.

Features flash images of Jonathan and model Bette Franke, the 15 second TV spot, images, and a wonderful making of video.

I’ve added sexy new images snagged from the new site:

• Replaced one image with a better one and added a close-up of the ad.
• 27 images from the behind the scenes feature.

Warner Bros. has finally updated their website for “August Rush” with lots of new content, including a synopsis, trailer, poster, and many new photos. I’ve added 8 new stills to the gallery. Thanks to yasuko for the alert on this.

Jonathan is featured in a 5 page article in the new issue of OK! Magazine (Issue 579 - July 10, 2007 - UK edition). Thanks to fellow fan Clarissa, I’ve added the transcribed article to the press archive.

Update: I’ve added the introduction to the article and have added the new scan from the article to the Gallery.

And reminder, if you haven’t already, please sign the birthday book. The deadline is July 12th. We’re up to 168 entries. Again, if you would like to submit a piece of artwork or a longer letter, you can contact me for details.

Just a head’s up that I’m doing a cleaning up of the Jonathan Rhys Meyers fanlisting.

I’m sending out emails (slowly) to every member. If emails get bounced back for not existing, I will attempt to find new emails or be forced to delete members for not having current information.

You can check the list to review your member info. It’s very easy to update your own information to be sure it’s current. If you have any problems doing so, you can contact me for help. And of course, join the fanlisting if you aren’t already a member.

I’ve added the transcript from Jonathan’s live chat that was held last Monday.

Unfortunately, the moderator had problems blocking participants who were not conducting themselves maturely in the chat. Jonathan was bombarded with many silly and ridiculous questions. I’ve heavily modified the transcript to those questions that he actually answered.

I’ve also added 5 images of Jonathan on set filming the second season of “The Tudors.” Enjoy.
