Jonathan joins Roland Emmerich’s “Stonewall”

Exciting casting news was announced today! Jonathan has joined the cast of the independent “Stonewall” by director Roland Emmerich. This is a departure from Emmerich’s typical big Hollywood blockbusters that he’s know for but is a story very close to his heart. The film centers around the historic 1969 police raid in New York City that kick started the gay right movement in America. The film is being shot this summer in Montreal. Jonathan is playing the character of Danny.

More details from Deadline:

Roland Emmerich’s Stonewall, the Jon Robin Baitz-scripted pic about the 1969 police raid at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village that became the flashpoint for the gay rights movement, has kicked off production in and around Montreal. Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ron Perlman and Joey King have joined the cast, which is being toplined by Jeremy Irvine. Jonny Beauchamp and Caleb Landry Jones co-star, and newbies Karl Glusman, Vlademir Alexis and Alexandre Nachi also have come aboard. The film is being produced by Michael Fossat, Marc Frydman and Emmerich, with Kirstin Winkler and Adam Press executive producing. Emmerich starts shooting on this one, a passion project for him, while he continues prepping the next installment of Independence Day for Fox, which has a July 1, 2016, release date.

The drama centers on a Danny Winters (Irvine), a young man who is kicked out of his house and flees to NY, where homeless and destitute he befriends a group of street kids who soon introduce him to the watering hole of the local drag queens, gays, lesbians, and everything in between: the Mafia-run Stonewall Inn. There he meets the suave Danny (Meyers) but catches the eye of the Stonewall’s repulsive manager (Perlman), who colludes with corrupt police, exploits homeless youth for financial gain and is even suspected to have had a hand in some of their “disappearances.” King will play Winters’ sister.

Meyers is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Perlman by Gersh and KLWGN, and King by Coast to Coast Talent Group and Industry Entertainment.
