New details on London Town
From the Daily Mail comes new details on film project “London Town” that was first announced last May. When originally announced, Jonathan was set to play the father of a young boy trying to find his estranged mother set to the backdrop of the emerging punk scene. Now it appears, Jonathan may actually be playing iconic punk hero Joe Strummer of the band The Clash. This hasn’t yet been 100% confirmed but filming is set to start soon in London:
Culture Clash! Punk gets the Billy Elliot treatment
Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers is to play the late punk singer Joe Strummer in a new film about The Clash.
The musical movie, called London Town, will start filming in the capital next month.
But bizarrely – given that it is about the rebellious rock band – its plotline will resemble Billy Elliot, the stage show and movie about a young ballet dancer.
‘It will be a very similar format,’ said Jonathan, 36.
‘It’s a music-infused story set in 1978 about a 13-year-old boy who goes to London to find his estranged mother after she sends him a tape of The Clash’s White Riot.’
Daniel Huttlestone, who was young Gavroche in the movie of Les Misérables, will play the boy.
But Liv Tyler, originally cast as the boy’s mother, dropped out of the production last week, blaming ‘scheduling conflicts’.
