UPDATE: According to the Hollywood Reporter, a source close to Jonathan says this was NOT a suicide attempt. Jonathan’s representatives have declined comment at this time. Please keep posting all of your wonderful comments in this thread. Comments are held for moderation and will not appear automatically.

There is so much I’d like to say to you, but I’ll just say that your life is precious & your career is remarkable. You need to value yourself. God allowed you to live, after such a rough start. He has even more plans for you. You must count your many blessings & not dwell on your problems. Your Mother would want peace & contentment for you….not turmoil. Please be grateful for all the gifts you’ve been given. Tell the whole truth when in therapy. Get the bugs out of your mind & discuss them openly. Maybe it’s not quite as bad as it seems. Last summer I spent my time recovering from hip surgery watching the Tudors, because of you–and then all the rest of your films (maybe 22 or so). As a result, you are somewhat a part of my life- as you are for so many of us who know you only through your films. But you are a part nonetheless. I worry for you and wish you the best. I know sometimes it gets hard to live our lives but you have the blessing of family, friends and even people you do not yet know who care about you and wish only the best for you. The day I first saw you in The Tudors is a day that I will never forget, October 2007 and it was the day that changed my life. I have met so many wonderful people thanks to you Jonny and I will always be grateful for that. You are such a special person to all of your family, friends and fans and we care about you and your career so much! 28 of your DVDs and about £200 spent on them, they have been worth every single penny spent on them and you are fabulous in every single one as you bring uniqueness to the characters you play. I’m hoping to be able to go to my first ever film premiere to Ireland for Albert Nobbs in winter and I really hope I get the chance to meet you. Your such a kind, friendly and generous person. You’ve touched so many peoples lives for the better and you are just an inspiration to others and are so talented. Jonathan, I hope that everything written in the press was a lie. Sometimes, in order to be happy simply to raise your head and look around, look at the sky and the people who love you. We don’t know each other and I only know you from your work. However, I am a recovering drinker and drug addict who is battling depression. I’ve been clean and sober for over ten years. I don’t have a magic answer for you. All I can tell you is that it does get better. It didn’t get better until I gave up the booze and drugs and that I took responsibility for my depression. I was an all or nothing at all type of guy and I had to stop that and accept the middle ground. Once I could do that, things improved. I’m never in total bliss, but life is good. One of my therapists I had in my seven visits of rehab told me to: “Do the next right thing that I could do and have continued to do so. Somehow it works. I wish the best for you my friend. There will always be dark days, but now the sun shines a little bit brighter. Take care.
