From the Irish Examiner:
Rhys Meyers’s mother dies in hospital
By Dan Collins and Sean O’Riordan
21 November 2007The mother of movie star Jonathan Rhys Meyers died in a Cork city hospital yesterday — just days after the actor’s drunken outburst at Dublin Airport.
The death of Geraldine “Gerri” Meyers-O’Keeffe, 51, at the Mercy University Hospital was confirmed by the actor’s publicist who said the family had no further comment to make at this sad juncture…
Ms Meyers-O’Keeffe lived in Glanmire, Co Cork, and was hugely proud of her son’s rapid rise to fame as a movie and TV award-winning actor.
“I just gave birth to him. Once he found his niche in life I encouraged him,” she said when he won a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination for the 2005 CBS mini-series Elvis, in which he played Presley as a young man…
Early in 2006, Jonathan and his mother, with whom he had a very close and loving relationship, attended a civic reception at Cork’s City Hall where he was declared the Cork Person of the Month.
When Jonathan was this summer ranked 22nd on an online list of the world’s 100 hottest actors, as voted for by gay and bisexual men, his mother responded by saying: “I know for a fact that he will treat the survey in the way it was intended, as a bit of fun.”

It can be so easy to say the wrong thing-I pray I say the right thing or something meaningful-I know I have never met either of you but I think her LoveSong to you must now be in the stars and in your heart-one of my favorite poems: all that is good and all that is bad lies on this road. how we walk it is our salvation. —In no way is this saying, “chin up.” To miss a parent is an experience beyond words. Unless we want to tell the truth and say, simply, that “it’s a pretty frakked up thing.” Really, all I mean to convey is be true (you already know) to whatever you need to feel and do. And I’m so sorry that you lost your mom.~~~~~~
You know poor Jonathan, first the whole drunk thing is all over the press and really so he got mad at an airport, who cares! Now this terrible thing has happen losing his mom….this just goes to show none of us truly know what is going on in other people’s lives. Sorry for your loss Jonathan.
Hello Jonathan. I feel very sorry for your loss. I can figure how you feel actually. And your mother wasn’t old, just at the beginning of her 50’s. I understand your pain, because my fiancé lost his mother a few years ago and it was quite tough. So, I’m with you and your family in mind and I wish your pain will give you the power to change some things positively in your life. I’m sorry about my english, I’m not perfectly bilingual! Take care of you, and good luck!
No one can ever feel the thoughts and emotions that are ravishing through you now. Words and acts of sympathy really don’t mean anything, even if they filter through your senses. Only time is the healer, and with each passing day, grow stronger and draw from the positive energy that is being sent your way from all over the world. You will get through this, but you will never forget. May you always feel her love, and know that her purpose was to bring you to masses. My God surround you with love and positive energy.
I’ll Love You Forever,
SDW
May God bless and keep you Mr. Meyers, I am sorry for your loss and cannot put into words the emptiness and sadness you must be feeling at this moment. Remember she is in a better place and you will meet her again. I know how it feels to lose someone very very close to you, and would like to let you know that it will get easier. Always remember that she made you who you are.
Just wanted to say that I am very sorry and wish that you are able to get passed this terrible happening and hope that everything works out for the best. Out of every sad happening there is a good happening. If there is sad in death it is because there is sad in life and the death needs to be recognized. A mother is a great loss and a great love. I am sorry. There is nothing like the son’s loss of a mother, not that I know , but I can imagine that there is nothing like your son’s of a mother Geraldine….. all of your sons. KimBo!
tear!
I sincerely sent out my prayers to you and your family through this difficult time. She will definately be watching over you and her loved ones so stay strong. I know she was an amazing woman because she managed to raise an amazing man. Keep her proud.
Much Love,
Jennifer

What has happened is the worst thing a child can experience but it will get better. You are going to feel guilt and anger but it will pass. Try to keep the memories of your mother alive. My prayers are with you, Natasha x
I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Jonathan and his family. Losing one’s mother is a deep sorrow. She had to have ended her Earthwalk feeling very proud of her sons, and that would be a very fulfilling feeling as a mother.
Peace be with you all. You are held within an enormous circle of love and support, Jonathan.
Namaste
Vanessa
