Bright spot of news to share… Jonathan’s plate that he designed and signed to raise money the Parkinson Society Maritime Region ended up getting the highest bid over such celebs as Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr. with a winning bid of $1,717.96! A big fan of Jonathan won the plate and had a special story to share regarding it.
The Parkinson Society posted a lovely story about the winner of Jonathan’s plate:
Plates for Parkinson’s Update
The 3rd annual Plates for Parkinson’s campaign raised almost $12,000 for support services, education and research in 2009. Thank you to celebrity participants, buyers and bidders. Also thank you to our sponsors, Maritime Paper Products Ltd. and World Financial Group.
Some of the highest grossing plates were Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr., Nickelback, Chris Daughtry, Muhammad Ali, Alanis Morissette, Paul Gross, Kevin Sorbo and Sydney Crosby. However, it was a plate by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who plays King Henry VIII in the hit show “The Tudors,” that fetched this year’s highest bid, an incredible $1,714.96!
Fortunately, we had the privilege of meeting the buyer, who is without-a-doubt, Jonathan’s number one fan! Jonas Cosh, pictured above, stopped by our office with his mother and father to claim his plate, and we are so happy we got a chance to meet him!
Jonas contacted us in February after reading about Jonathan’s plate in the Plates for Parkinson’s article featured in Our Canada magazine. A huge fan of Jonathan’s acting, especially his performances as Elvis Presley and as King Henry VIII, Jonas also admires Jonathan for the many charities he supports.
After reading the article, Jonas and his grandfather decided he needed to win Jonathan’s plate!
Unfortunately, before the auction ended, his grandfather passed away. Jonas told us that now more than ever, this plate holds a very special place in his heart.
The Parkinson Society Maritime Region would like to thank Jonas and everyone else who helped make Plates for Parkinson’s 2009 a success!
Many news and gossip sites have been picking up some troubling news from this past weekend. It’s important to note that none of these reports have been confirmed yet and there’s been no comment from Jonathan or his management about this matter. The following is a report from People:
Jonathan Rhys Meyers Held After Airport Brawl
By Peter Mikelbank

Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers was detained by French police on Saturday afternoon following an incident in which he allegedly assaulted an airport lounge employee while drunk, Agence France Presse reports.
The Irish actor, 31, was placed in custody for several hours for having a skirmish with bar employees and allegedly punching one at the Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris, according to reports.
The incident began when a bartender at the café area “Le Quotidien” in the departure area of the airport at terminal 2F refused to serve the actor, who appeared drunk, according to the news service. A shouting match developed between Rhys Meyers and the bar manager. Then when another bar employee tried to separate the pair, Rhys Meyers swung and punched the intervening waiter.
Police handcuffed the actor when placing him in custody, and sources tell PEOPLE that the actor remained in a sober lock-up area for three hours before being released.
The AFP reports that Rhys Meyers has been told to appear before the Correctional Tribunal in Bobigny in September to answer charges concerning, “voluntary violence, contempt, issuing death threats and assault,” according to a judicial source.
The Tudors actor was previously arrested for public intoxication in November 2007 at the Dublin airport. In April of the same year he spent time in a rehab facility for treatment.
A rep for Rhys Meyers had no comment.
I know that Jonathan has amazing and supportive fans from around the world. Please join me in wishing him and his family the very best during this difficult situation and that he continues to get help as he deals with his personal demons.
The official teaser poster for “From Paris with Love” has been released. The film is set for a February 19, 2010 release date and the film is buidling buzz because of the surprise success of “Taken”. “Taken” was also directed by Pierre Morel and co-written by Luc Besson.

Additionally, because of scheduling conflicts (the last season of The Tudors starts filming next month) and delays with the production starting, Jonathan is no longer involved in the Mary, Mother of Christ project anymore.

Apr 13, 2009, 03:39 PM | by Jeremy Medina
Fresh off of passing on a number of buzzworthy prospective pilots (including a spinoff of The L Word and a pilot written and directed by Tim Robbins), Showtime has announced it will renew historical drama series The Tudors for a fourth and final season, according to Variety. The 10-episode season will debut in the spring of 2010. Series creator and executive producer Michael Hirst will also be back to write each episode, which will conclude the saga of King Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) and chronicle his final two marriages and subsequent mental instability. The Tudors is one of the network’s top-rated series, with the third season’s April 5 premiere netting a cumulative total of 1.3 million viewers.
Jonathan appeared on “The View” Tuesday, but unfortunately pulled out of his other two scheduled appearances:
Sick Rhys Meyers Pulls The Plug On U.S. TV Appearances
Illness has forced Jonathan Rhys Meyers to cancel a New York publicity campaign for the new season of his hit TV period drama, “The Tudors.”
After appearances on a handful of TV shows, Rhys Meyers disappeared from the airwaves and skipped booked spots on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and the “Martha Stewart” show on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
The star’s spokeswoman, Meredith O’Sullivan, insists a bout of illness is to blame for his no-shows.
She tells WENN, “After Jonathan completed two full press days in New York, he came down with something and we had to pull him from his remaining press.”
Rhys Meyers spent time in rehab in 2007 to treat alcohol abuse and Hollywood gossips claim he returned in February for another stint. His publicist insists his current illness has nothing to do with his past drinking problems.

Wishing Jonathan well during this time!
