Jonathan as Mr. Fantastic?

Casting rumors have hit the blogs about the upcoming reboot of “The Fantastic Four” by Fox. Jonathan is being mentioned as a front-runner for lead Reed Richards along with Adrian Brody. From ScreenRant:

With Twentieth Century Fox about to start production on X-Men: First Class next week, their next Marvel film will be the reboot of Fantastic Four. We’ve heard rumors of Alice Eve and Amber Heard in the running for the role of Sue Storm and we already know from our own chat with someone inside the Fox SFX department that The Thing will be entirely CGI this time around, but now we finally have some info about the leader of the team: Mr. Fantastic.

According to my sources, Fox is currently pursuing high caliber talent to play the man whose ability allows him to not only act as the local genius, but to be completely elastic. The two actors in the running for Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards are Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Adrien Brody.

Adrien Brody is currently a hot item and his name has already been associated with the lead role in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man for Marvel Studios. With Fox interested in the actor who can be seen in the recent releases of Predators and Splice, it seems sooner or later Brody will be a super hero. Meyers on the other hand, who played the lead alongside John Travolta in this year’s From Paris With Love and star of the hit series The Tudors, hasn’t been mentioned for other major comic book properties.

This only rumor and speculation at this point. There is also no definite word on whether Jonathan will be joining the upcoming “Mission: Impossible IV”.

Tudors Final Season on DVD

You can pre-order the final season of “The Tudors” on DVD. It’s set for release on October 12, 2010. There are no details yet on any DVD extras or a release on Blu-ray. There’s also no word yet on a box set release of all 4 seasons.

Jonathan as video game character?

Yes, it’s true. Showtime has released a Tudors video game. I saw this in stores the other day and was so pleasantly surprised to see Jonathan as Henry on the cover of a video game!

Description of the game is: “Political intrigue spans national borders in this historical hidden object game. When King Henry VIII asks you to be his eyes and ears in Europe, you are drawn into a world of deception and murder. As you assume the role of the spy, you will find that even the simplest objects can hold vital clues.” The 2011 Tudors calendar is also out now.

Tudors costumes

Joan Bergin is up for an Emmy for Best Costume Design for the final season of “The Tudors”. She has already won two Emmys for her work on the series in 2007 and 2008.

From an LA Times recent feature on the nominated costume designers, Joan had this to say about Jonathan:

Image: What a sexy set! Which male and female character was your favorite to dress?

Bergin: Well, one of the things about Jonathan Rhys-Meyers [Henry] is that he is a natural clothes horse. He was very interested in the costumes. If he hadn’t liked what I was doing it would have been agonizing. He really enjoyed the fittings and contributed. With women, it was Anne and Catherine Parr. We did magnificent jewelry for her [Anne's] coronation scene that cost an absolute fortune. We had a bodyguard on set!

Image: But both Henry Cavill [Charles Brandon] and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers are gorgeous. Did you have a favorite?

Bergin: Let’s just say I always like things complex and difficult, and Henry [Rhys-Meyers] was more… complex.

Another Mission?

“Mission Impossible: IV” has been announced with director Brad Bird, but the cast is not yet lined up. Jonathan is rumored to be joining the 4th installment reprising his role as Declan. His involvement has not been officially announced yet.

From IGN:

MI: IV Peggs Down Cast
The nerdy technician prevails?

July 19, 2010
by Tara Daley

Mission Impossible: IV may have a decisively mysterious plot thus far, but as director Brad Bird has actors lining up to read for roles, the cast is taking form.

Joining Tom Cruise and small group of rumored cast members (such as Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is Simon Pegg, the previous M.I. film’s tech nerd (and Star Trek’s Scotty).

Pegg, also known for Shaun of the Dead, is in talks to reprise his role as Benji Dunn in the fourth M.I. flick. This announcement is likely just one of many, as Bird is spending this week casting, with the film set to start production in September.

Produced by Cruise, J.J. Abrams and Paula Wagner, the fourth and potentially final film is projected for a late 2011 release.

Special Olympics message

From Limerick Leader, comes news about Jonathan filming a good luck message for Special Olympics athletes in the Ireland games:

Special Olympics athletes ‘such an inspiration’ says Cranberries singer Dolores

By David Hurley

THE Special Olympics Ireland games, which began in Limerick this Thursday morning, were opened in spectacular fashion on Wednesday night as more than 15,000 people filled Thomond Park for the opening ceremony.

The athletes, their families and thousands of supporters enjoyed the unique occasion which was headlined by the Cranberries, who performed live in Limerick for the first time since 1993.

“You guys are such an inspiration, you’re amazing, you’re such an inspiration with so much courage hope and love,” said lead singer Dolores O’Riordan as she took to the stage, which was specially erected on the North Terrace.

The huge crowds were also entertained by performances throughout the event from the Limerick Gospel Choir, The Munster Rugby Choir the Heathers and the Daghdha-Garvey initiative.

Five baskets of white doves were released into the stadium from the giant stage and there was also an impressive flyover by four Aer-Corps PC9 planes, which are based at Baldonnell Aerodrome.

Celebrities who attended on the night included MC’s Des Cahill and Ian Dempsey, Breffny Morgan from the Apprentice, television presenter Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh, Micheal O Muircheartaigh and rugby stars Paul O’Connell, Keith Wood and Simon Best.

Good luck messages from stars such as Colin Farrell, Westlife, Miriam O’Callaghan O’Callaghan, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Bernard Dunne, Jon Voight, Brendan Gleeson and the late Gerry Ryan were played to the crowd on a giant television screen.

The Special Olympics Ireland games, which are worth more than €20 million to the mid west economy, is one of the biggest sporting events taking place in Ireland this year.

Over 1,900 athletes will particpate in 14 sports at venues across Limerick between now and Sunday.

From Paris on DVD

“From Paris With Love” is now out on both DVD and Blu-ray. The DVD version contains an audio commentary with director Pierre Morel, making-of feature, Life Under Cover feature, Inside the International Spy Museum feature, and trailer. The Blu-ray version contains the same as well as a trivia game, Charlie Wax’s Gun Locker feature, and a digital copy of the film.

Back in Rehab

From People Magazine comes official word that Jonathan is back in London seeking treatment for his alcoholism:

Jonathan Rhys Meyers Returns to Rehab
Tuesday May 18, 2010 08:55 PM EDT

The Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers will return to London for treatment again for his alcohol addiction, PEOPLE has confirmed.

“He just really wants to get better,” says a source close to the actor. “This has been an ongoing battle for him.”

Rhys Meyers first entered rehab in April 2007. He was arrested that November for public intoxication at the Dublin airport and was detained by police in June 2009 at the Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris after allegedly assaulting an airport lounge employee while drunk.

The actor’s rep confirms to PEOPLE that he is again seeking treatment for his addiction, but declined further comment.

The JRMfansite does not condone the alleged behavior that gossip blogs have reported about Jonathan’s recent incident at JRK airport in New York City. Alcoholism is a disease that Jonathan will have to combat the rest of his life. The JRMfansite wishes Jonathan peace and serenity as he continues to battle his personal demons.
