Tudors renewed for 3rd season

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Showtime taps ‘Tudors’ for 3rd season
By Kimberly Nordyke
April 22, 2008

Just a few weeks after its sophomore bow, Showtime’s “The Tudors” has gotten a third-season pickup.

Production will begin June 16 in Dublin, Ireland, with series star Jonathan Rhys Meyers set to return as King Henry VIII. The number of episodes has yet to be determined for Season 3, which will follow the king as he weds Jane Seymour (Anita Briem) and Anne of Cleves, but it’s scheduled for a 2009 premiere.

The news comes after Showtime recently reiterated its commitment to original programming. Following the news that the network would not be renewing its output deals with Viacom-owned Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM — which now will be launching a premium TV channel and VOD service in fall 2009 — Showtime is expected to invest some of the money earmarked for output deals into more original series. Along with “Tudors,” Showtime’s originals include “Dexter” and “Weeds.”

Showtime said Tuesday that “Tudors” is one of CBS Home Entertainment’s top-selling titles. Both the series and Rhys Meyers earned Golden Globe nominations this year.

” ‘The Tudors’ is now a fixture for us at Showtime, and we’re on our way to completing the entire saga of all six wives of Henry VIII,” Showtime president of entertainment Robert Greenblatt said.

“Tudors,” an Ireland-Canada co-production presented in association with Peach Arch Entertainment, is written by creator Michael Hirst, who also executive produces with Morgan O’Sullivan for Octagon Films, Benjamin Silverman and Teri Weinberg for Reveille Prods., Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan for Working Title Films and Sheila Hockin.

Gallery & Site Update

Small gallery update - added 10 stills from season two of “The Tudors”.

There’s been some security issues with the site in the past couple weeks. I apologize for any downtime or any problems you may have had while visiting. I’ve moved to a new host and am continuing to work on improving and upgrading the scripts that power this site.

August Rush now on DVD

August Rush August Rush August Rush August Rush August Rush

“August Rush” is now available on DVD. There’s a few deleted scenes included on the disc, but unfortunately no other extras (apparently the Asian version of the DVD does contain some cast interviews). Two of the deleted scenes feature Jonathan’s character Louis. I’ve made and added 56 screen caps from the first deleted scene. More on the way.

TV Alerts

“The Tudors” season two premiere is scheduled to be held in New York City on March 19 at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers. Before the premiere, Jonathan will be making the TV rounds. Here’s the list of appearances so far:

  • “The Today Show” - Wednesday, March 19 - with co-star Peter O’Toole
  • “The View” - Thursday, March 20 - with co-star Natalie Dormer

Rhys Meyers joins Moore in ‘Shelter’
Mans Marlind, Bjorn Stein to direct Nala thriller
By DAVE MCNARY

Jonathan Rhys Meyers is looking for “Shelter” opposite Julianne Moore in a supernatural horror thriller being produced by Nala Films.

“Shelter,” based on a script by Michael Cooney (”Identity”), will be directed by the Swedish duo Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein (”Storm”). Lensing starts in late March in Pittsburgh.

The logline is being kept under wraps, and the project’s financed through Nala Investments, parent of Nala Films. Darlene Caamano Loquet, Nala Films prexy, and Emilio Diez Barroso, chairman-CEO of Nala Investments, will produce along with Mike Macari and Neal Edelstein of Macari Edelstein films.

Rhys Meyers stars in Showtime’s “The Tudors.” Other recent credits include “Match Point,” “Mission: Impossible 3″ and “August Rush.”

More on Hope

More details about Jonathan’s involvement with the Hope Foundation. From the Irish Independent:

Meyers to be face of ‘Calcutta’ charity
By Ralph Riegel
Tuesday February 19 2008

AN IRISH charity last night celebrated securing Golden Globe winning actor, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, as its international goodwill ambassador.

The 31-year-old Cork actor has agreed to work with the Hope Foundation to highlight the plight of street children in India.

Hope — which was founded in Cork nine years ago — is now involved in a total of 57 different projects in India including ventures to help street children in Calcutta.

Rhys-Meyers will now work with the charity to highlight their work — and he is expected to visit India to record a special TV documentary on the Irish charity’s operations.

The Irish star — whose mother died tragically in Cork last year — is regarded as one of the world’s top young actors.

Despite being just 30, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers has already appeared in 35 major film and TV productions and is regarded as one of the world’s brightest acting talents.

The past 18 months has marked a dramatic ascent in the actor’s fortunes with a Golden Globe award, several critically acclaimed films and a starring role in the steamy British TV series ‘The Tudors’, playing King Henry VIII.

Last night, Hope official Maureen Forrest admitted they were thrilled with the support of Jonathan Rhys-Meyers.

“He is committed to visit Calcutta and to do a documentary in Calcutta with the children. He is terribly interested in children’s rights so he has spoken very positively about trying to highlight the problems with child trafficking and child labour,” Ms Forrest said.

“He is going to be in Ireland for the next four months so he has also said he wants to work with us as closely as possible.”
